All Around Me Are Familiar Faces, Worn Out Places

My FIRST day off of work and I got to spend it with Lauren Chartier and Joey Hedrick, which was pretty primo! I met them in PB and we ate at the Best Burger joint in PB Rocky's Crown Pub .  Nothing will ever compare to an animal-style In&Out burger for me, NOTHING, but this was still good!  I loved the fries. After searching for my credit card, we headed to the hostel where I found it after of course getting the staff to let me in since I locked my keys in my room (I'm a complete mess). I gave them a tour of my hostel and Joey found this little gem immediately in the communal beverage fridge, which he pointed out to us. <3 these people (in case you are wondering, Joey, I watched 3 guys consume them a week later because I think they wanted to be raped)

We didn't have much time since they had to catch a flight so we checked out downtown San Diego where we had some Ghiradelli's (nice call, Joey!), looked at Urban Outfitters where I found 5 books I wanted, and attempted to make it to the water (Lauren, we were only like 3 minutes away from the water when we were at the hostel. My bad, took you the wrong way. Shocker!) I then had them pose with JR because anyone that visits me here gets a picture with my little travel companion/road trip DJ!

Next day at work got to hit up Florida Canyon to plant flowers and trees with the kids as part of their restoration project. Tough day for Joe (my direct supervisor) who got our work van towed and had to spend his morning at the Impound getting it out (stupid Cali Parking Enforcement!) There are two separate groups of 7th&8th graders that work on this canyon in Balboa Park and they meet once a month during the year. It was great to see them so excited to beautify some of their city, although I did have to reel them in a few times and totally called a kid out for messing around.  Those are the flowers the girls planted last year and here are the boys examining some bulbs they dug up. Hilarious, they kept yelling, "It's a potato! It's and onion! I don't know what it is, smash it with the shovel."

The kids even have a kiosk on site with group photos and photos of what they have done and some sheets explaining what their program is and why they do this.

I also received this BALLER package from Htizz! Thank you, everyone at work loved the cookies (Only nice enough to share cuz I knew I would eat both packs myself within 2 days) I'm stoked about the beach guide and the coupons for clif bars! I need to send something California-like back! (And not douchey Cali, so no Ed Hardy shirts and shades to wear at night, but maybe some slang YOLO, BRO!)

The rest of the work week was pretty much getting stuff ready for the military program, getting stuff ready for our overnight surf training that weekend, and checking out this graffiti on my way from parking spots in the Hostel. Met some awesome people at the hostel, half of which I don't remember their names. I don't think the Aussies mind when I call them dude and the English don't care when I call them buddy so all I have to do is remember the names of the staff I made friends with cuz they hook you up.

Hanna Dunning came down on Friday to hang (hooray!). She is a genius - ate a 4 dollar potato burrito the size of my forearm, got to see the waterfront, Petco Park during a Padres game, and then went out scouring the town for drinks. Of course I have no pictures of any of this because at one of the bars, I definitely dropped my phone in the toilet. It no longer turns on - thank GOD I got the insurance for it before I went to Vegas. I have to pay $65 for a new phone, but it's better than $150! I do remember eating pizza on the side of the street like a bum with one of the Australian guys when I got separated from Hanna and thank you to her for waking me up for my Surf Trip the next morning (at 7am!) My phone was fried, I wouldn't have woke up at all. She is coming down tomorrow and this weekend and of course we are totally going to miss the Padres v Phillies game we wanted to see since it is an away game.

I enjoyed a nice conversation with some Canadians that I totally made fun of the entire time I was at the bar and then they bought me a drink. Also got a free shot somehow from an Aussie - whatever, free is free! Checking out some housing this week *fingers crossed* and I'll cover my surf trip tomorrow cuz I'm dying, gotta hit the sack.
